Why a Dehumidifier for Your Home is a Good Idea during Winter

by mitrasetia | no comments | Dehumidifier

Why a Dehumidifier for your home is a good idea during winter? A lot of people don’t even think about or give any consideration to the idea of using a dehumidifier in the home during the winter period. That’s such a shame.

Winter is a time of year when more condensation than ever can build up in our home, even more so than during summer. Here’s why:

When it’s cold outside we tend to ramp up the central heating in an attempt to keep warm. There’s nothing wrong with that; it makes perfect sense.

The problem is that normal vapor in the atmosphere of our rooms is attracted to any cold surfaces it can find, because it’s colder outside than it is in our cozy homes, the vapor will eventually settle in places such as our windows. This is really bad news for us. This is actually worse during the winter than it is the summer.

Not only are puddles of dirty condensation water on our windows sills deeply unattractive, but they pose a real risk to ours, and our family’s health.

Another reason a dehumidifier in the home during winter is a good idea is because when it’s winter, it’s only natural that we open the windows less. Opening the windows regularly is what lets built up vapor and condensation out of the house. This stops damp and mold starting to form in and around the house. But, who wants to open the windows when the weather is so cold outside?

The winter months can be brutally cold depending on where you live. To avoid teeth chattering and bundling up under layers of clothes, you can make sure that you have a heater inside your home that is not only installed, but working as it should. This way you can generate hot air coursing through the rooms of your home to take the chill off.

The heater in your home, if you have one, sits unused for a bulk of the year. It gathers dirt and dust, which can sometimes cause problems to the actual working of the unit. It’s a good idea to call an air conditioning company to come out and check it out before you power it up for the first time. This way you can ensure that it is fully functional when the temperatures start to drop.

If you’re not fortunate enough to have a heater in your home, you may want to look at having a unit installed. They will use the same air ducts that are in place for your air conditioning so that you get heat coming through the vents of all of your rooms. They are pretty affordable and will last you a very long time.

You may also want to consider a space heater. This will plug into a standard wall outlet and provide you with enough heat to raise the temperature in any size room you have. The details of each space heater are different, so regardless of whether you have a huge room or a small one, there will be a unit to heat things up for you.

When you’re checking out the space heaters, you may opt for one that gets installed into the window frame, similar to how an air conditioning unit model works. This way you don’t have to worry about moving it from room to room and it will be somewhat permanent. Depending upon how much room you have in your house, you may want to get a few different units so that you’re able to keep everything heated and comfortable for friends and family throughout the holidays.

Another way to keep your house warm throughout the winter is to check the seals of all of your doors and windows. It may be that you have centralized heat or space heaters and you’re still getting cold air coming in. The insulation around your doors, windows and even what could be coming in from your roof could be lowering the temperature. Having extra insulation or foam blown in can be very helpful to maintain the heat of your home.

You should be as comfortable as possible throughout the winter months, so there are plenty of ways to get the heat in – and keep it in. Check out what you have in place and make some adjustments now before it gets too cold.

If you work with the professionals, they will help you so that you’re not left with blankets heaped on top of you and your company to prevent getting frost bitten.
